Liberty For All has supported Kerry from the get-go. And not just because he was the best candidate in the race.

We chose to support Kerry–after a nationwide search for candidates–because he supports Liberty, and as another great candidate has said many times in the past year (and the last 30), freedom is popular.

We believe that the citizens of Michigan-11 want to get this country on the right track. They want businesses to thrive so they can hire. They want the government to stand by its promises–promoting peace, freedom, and opportunity, and never mortgaging our future to avoid making hard choices today.

Is that an American message? Absolutely. But it’s larger than that as well. For far too long, both parties have drifted into the temptation of borrowing to overspend, and believing that technocratic policy tweaks in Washington can control the economic realities on Main Street. That’s how we got where we are right now. And a recovery it is not.

Principle and common sense dictate a change in direction. Back to empowered individuals, to belief in communities, to an economy built on wealth instead of debt. That’s Kerry Bentivolio’s platform. And it has the power to unite Michigan-11. And America.

Whispered from party offices, discussed in closed rooms, and occasionally appearing in print were the tales of “Krazy Kerry,” the Republican who couldn’t win, and didn’t truly represent the interests of Michigan-11.

If only establishment pick Nancy Cassis had been on the primary ballot, the story went, nominee Kerry Bentivolio would have been sent packing–back to the classroom, to the farm, to Iraq, to those places that don’t count, apparently, as experience and service to this country. Then career politician and tax-raiser Nancy Cassis could have taken her “rightful” place on the ticket in November.

Surely, a candidate this far from the mainstream–with his radical notions of supporting the Constitution, lowering tax burdens on business, and protecting our civil liberties–would fail in the face of the good old-fashioned tax-and-spend establishment.

Clearly, Nancy lost the regular primary because she was a write-in candidate, not because Kerry and those supporting him revealed her track record of raising taxes on Michigan’s hard-hit employers, right? Certainly, in the special primary necessitated by Thad McCotter’s resignation, she would trounce him.

But that’s not what happened Wednesday night.

With both names on the ballot, Michigan-11 Republicans picked Kerry, who will now face two Democratic opponents on November 6th–one for the remainder of McCotter’s term, and the other for the new term starting in January.

Apparently, the Michigan voters have voiced their preferences. It’s back to principle. Back to common sense. Back to freedom. And in just 59 days, Michigan-11 can say “Yes!” to economic recovery and civil liberties by sending Kerry Bentivolio to Washington.

Bentivolio did have a significant advantage in the race: He was the only one on the ballot after the incumbent McCotter failed to submit enough signatures to get on the ballot this year. McCotter later dropped out of the race. When the high school teacher became the likely GOP nominee, the GOP establishment rallied against the Ron Paul fan and Federal Reserve critic, eventually settling on Cassis, who put up $200,000 of her own money in what turned out to be a failed write-in campaign. While Cassis had the endorsement of much of the GOP establishment, Bentivolio had won the endorsement of Texas Congressman Ron Paul, his son Kentucky Senator Rand Paul, and Michigan Congressman Justin Amash.

Bentivolio also benefited from outside support; the Texas-based Liberty for All Super-PAC invested $650,000 in Bentivolio’s victory in the weeks before the primary. “Now we have another principled Constitutionalist to fight for our freedom in Congress,” the Super-PAC boasted on its Facebook page after results of the primary were reported.

With Kerry Bentivolio’s stunning victory in the GOP Michigan Congressional primary yesterday, Liberty For All racked up another win for freedom — and, with any luck in November, another reliably pro-Constitution, pro-sound-economics vote in the U.S. House of Representatives.

First, congratulations are due to Kerry and his campaign team, who fended off a strong establishment challenge from career politician and tax-raiser Nancy Cassis. We hope the Michigan GOP has learned a lesson about real grassroots Republicans.

Second, we’d like to thank our team and our supporters for making our contribution a success. It’s a real pleasure to use the tools of a super PAC to help candidates who value individuals and freedom above special interests and power.

Libertarian-Leaning Liberty For All Super PAC Helps Kerry Bentivolio Win Congressional Primary, Despite Being Down 16% points

(August 7, 2012, Austin, TX) — Proving that grassroots muscle, pavement-pounding, and hard work can pay off, Kerry Bentivolio captured the Republican nomination on Tuesday night winning a double-digit percentage over his opponent.

“I started this PAC to end politics as usual, to end the gridlock, and to help America become great again,” said John Ramsey, founder of Liberty For All Super PAC. “Kerry Bentivolio’s win demonstrates that a grassroots veteran and teacher can overcome smoke-filled-room politics.”

This win is no small feat in light of the recent Detroit Free Press poll (07/27-07/28) showing write-in candidate, Nancy Cassis (R-Novi), leading libertarian-leaning, grassroots candidate Kerry Bentivolio by 16% ten days away from the August 7th Primary.

“When we play, we play to win,” said Liberty For All Super PAC Executive Director, Preston Bates. “We left no stone unturned by spending more than $658,000 on phones, mail, broadcast, and cable TV,” Bates continued.

“If you think you’ve seen the strength and the depth of the freedom movement so far, you haven’t seen anything yet,” Ramsey added.
